A meeting of the District council was held today to finalized the arrangement for the participation of teachers in National Dharna to be held on 13th September 2023at New Delhi. Dr. Gurdas Singh Sekhon, General Secretary, PCCTU told that the thousands of teachers of 136 aided colleges of Punjab will go on MASS CASUAL leave on 13th September and participate in the Dharna held at Janter Manter, New Delhi. Dr. Sekhon told that the center government is not listening to our just and genuine demands and he said that this protest is an acid test for our organizational strength to compel an undemocratic as well as retrograde mind set of Central Government to respond positively to the Democratic voice of the nation. Dr.Sekhon elaborated the major demands of the teachers at National Level are as follows which needs immediate attention of the Central Government:

Roll Back Anti People New Education Policy-2020, Restore Old Pension Scheme, Withdraw all common National Entrance, Spent 10 percent of GDP on Education, Regularize the services of Adhoc/Part time Employees, Fill-up all vacant Teaching and Non-Teaching posts on permanent basis ‘from primary to university, Reinstate all scholarship for minorities and SC/ST/OBC students, No closure and merger of schools and colleges, Protect Secular,
Democratic and Scientific character of Education, Regular & full payment of Grant in Aid institutions, Non Aided Institution be brought under Grant in Aid fold, Maintain multi-cultural, multi-religious ,multi lingual identity of the nation, Ensure Academic Autonomy, Democratic Governance in universities, Regular students Union Elections and students representation in all academic bodies, No to online teaching and admission, No to digital and virtual universities, Protect federal structure and democracy of the nation and maintain consultative status to all teachers’ Organizations.
Dr. BB Yadav District President told that it will be a historical protest against the central government. If the government will not listen to our demands then teachers will think about their role in the coming Parliament election 2024.
